Every once in awhile you come across a photo a video regarding the
assassination that you hadn't seen before and here is one such video. It
is a 9 1/2 minute clip from the Today Show on the Monday of JFK's funeral.
It opens with a replay of Ruby shooting Oswald and switches to early
coverage of the funeral. Hugh Downs is the host having just taken over the
Today Show from Dave Garroway the previous year.

I would bet DVP has this in his archives. Probably the entire program.

I just learned when I looked up the year Hugh Downs took over the Today
Show that he died last July at the age of 99. Since I've given up watching
network news programs I miss out on things like that.

No, I had never seen it before. But I've put it in my archives now. So
thanks for posting the link.

Makes me wonder how many more JFK things are out there that are slipping
beneath my radar. The "Today Show" clip you posted above has been on
YouTube for 6.5 years now, and yet I've never once run across it.

Many thousands of hours of 1963 radio and TV footage that were almost
certainly recorded (and very likely saved) by station managers nationwide
are still waiting to be included in my JFK Collections. It'd be nice to be
able to rescue that lost footage from all those vaults and basements.

Glad I could make at least one meager contribution to your vast library of
material.

I think we discussed this quite a few years ago but I doubt there is as
much undiscovered video out there as you might think. Much newsreel
footage in those days was celluloid and it was not common practice to save
it because it required storage space. Unless something of significance was
attached to it, most of it was not considered worth saving. Had it not
been for the assassination, I would bet most of the footage from the Texas
trip would have been discarded.

There is likely still some undiscovered post assassination material to be
found but I doubt there is that much pre--assassination stuff. I think
it's going to be like panning for gold. Lots of effort to get a few small
bits.

Here are a couple lengthy offerings from the Sixth Floor Museum. They may
have been posted before but here they are for those who might have missed
them.
