A sidebar story on this (and not to divert it) is that it illustrates,
once again, how much Fonzi and many in that "first" HSCA investigation
were so locked in to their conviction that the CIA was behind the
assassination. Fonzi himself admitted this; he wasn't a conspiracy
"theorist" - he said was a conspiracy "believer". This was the era of the
"Family Jewels" revelations of CIA misdeeds and a lot of people simply got
caught up in that frenzy. Fonzi most notably.
Fonzi was, by most accounts, a very smart and diligent man. But Veciana's
accounts of these meetings with Bishop are just so obviously misleading
and not credible that he should have been dismissed after the first couple
of interviews. Or at least held at a great distance.
Or maybe I'm naive and don't understand that the CIA of today is not the
same one that had been, as they were, corrupted by fighting the "Cold
War."
